Mission Statement

Over the next year I hope to build a garden from the ground up. I will attempt to build all of the equipment from common items, and will try to avoid using anything that is hard to find. I will try to keep track of all of my progress so it is easy to follow and if one wanted one could recreate my projects.

I will almost certainly lean heavily on my experiences as a child with my first vegetable garden, but will also go to the "tubes" as the need arises. I will be sure to cite anything I borrow, and if I can will provide good schematics of anything I don't.

This year I've sourced all of the seeds I will be using from Seed Savers Exchange, specifically their online offerings. Next year I will order from their massive catalog. 

Progress as of 03/03/2013:

1. Vermicultural system is active (thanks to +Nadine Overmyer  and Amelia)
2. First batch of seedlings are active.
3. First T5HO Fluorescent fixture is being tested to help the seedlings along.

Tentative plans

1. Build 4 to 6 raised beds, utilize local municipal compost.
2. Build a rain collection system.
3. Setup an irrigation system to utilize multiple water sources.
4. Develop a companion gardening system that will make the best use of space with little concern for traditional rows.
5. Explore holistic pest deterrents and plant health solutions.
6. Eat delicious food....
